The Fishermans Friend was started in 1984 by Russ & Mike Faught. They saw the need for a tackle shop that catered to the fishermen.
We wanted to provide what the fishermen wanted not just what you could get at any place.
In 1987 I left my former employment
and took the shop on full time putting all my effort into making it what I felt was a complete fishing tackle shop for freshwater
fishermen.
I have fished all my life with the first 30 or so years mostly in the California Delta. I kept a boat in the water
in different marina's for over 20 years and fished striped bass and sturgeon with a passion.
For the past 15 or so years I have
fished mostly lakes and reservoirs for trout and kokanee. The Kokanee in our local lakes were very nice but I wanted to take it to
another level so I started looking in other areas for these fish and finally found that Flaming Gorge was possibly the place to try.
In August of 2000 I made my first trip there and found it to be what I considered to be a kokanee paradise. I was home only one week
and turned around and headed back for a second trip. Since then I have made an additional 43 trips.
